Kinetic Sculpture

I create kinetic assemblage sculptures reflecting the anxieties of technology. “Smile! You’re On Camera” has four false eyes like surveillance cameras that follow the viewer through the gallery – art that views its viewer. The work is assembled out of the throw-away Amazon packaging that parts of it arrived in, a sort of recycling process that reconstitutes Amazon’s surveillance apparatus that has been built inextricably with its convenience-oriented, “smart device”, and entertainment-forward services. In the second work in this series, through literal window blinds, like half-closed eyelids, “Windows Crash” recalls the warm yester-year that marked the first exposure to digital art for many people: Microsoft Paint. But, it comes with a cost – the fragile, jolting, flakiness and inherent ephemerality of the digital realm.
